Flag Raising for GAA

We have always been great supporters of all initiatives involving the GAA so we were delighted to be part of the 5 Star GAA Awards. A massive thank you must go to James Flynn GPO who came to our school every week since November. Early morning training sessions  were supervised by staff and James and lunchtime leagues were helped by Anthony and Mag Dillion and Barth Slattery.

Our Rackard League Boys and Girls did very well making it to the Mini 7's County Semifinal and the quarter final stages. The 4th class boys team won every match and made it to become the Rising Stars County Final Winners. Larry O'Brien and Pat Devereux have to be thanked for the work they did with the Rising stars team. Staff members Ciaran Holohan, Maura Shanahan and Brid O'Neill must be thanked also for their help and support with the teams and matches.

Four pupils from 6th class, Michael O'Rourke, Sean Fitzharris, Caitlin Gaffney and Daniel Cowman also took part  in the GAA handball competition and both Michael and Sean became the Leinster u13 Doubles Champions.

It was fitting that we welcomed back a past pupil - Eoin Porter to raise our flag. Eoin is currently the captain of the U20 Wexford Football team and plays on the Senior Wexford Football team as well. He serves as an example to the pupils of what they can achieve when they are older.  Fionn Mac Eochaidh and Ruby Smith spoke of the work the Committee did to achieve this award today and we are very thankful to them all for their hard work.

We rounded off the afternoon with a rendition of The Rathgarogue-Cushinstown Anthem sung by Isobel Kehoe and dancing at the crossroads by 2nd class.
