Our Digital Learning Plan

Feb 2020 – Feb 2021

1. Introduction
This document records the outcomes of our current digital learning plan, including targets and the actions we will implement to meet the targets.

1.1 School Details:
Scoil Naomh Áine, Rathgarogue is a rural, mixed school 5 miles from New Ross, Co. Wexford. We currently have 7 mainstream classroom teachers and 3 Special Education Teachers on our SEN team. Our enrolment of 200 students mainly comes from the immediate area. We are progressive in our approach to education and allow our children to avail of every curricular and extracurricular activity as the need or access to same arises.

1.2 School Vision:
In accordance with the guidance provided by the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) our aim in Scoil Naomh Áine is to increase the integration of ICT across the curriculum to enhance the quality of teaching and learning within our school through a multi-sensory approach. To achieve this aim, we plan to make better use out of the digital resources we have and to invest in further resources in order to make digital learning accessible for all. We have created a Digital Learning team who along with school leaders will provide resources and foster an inclusive environment where the creative, effective and meaningful use of technologies is encouraged and supported. As a staff we aim to regularly up skill ourselves in the area of digital learning through CPD. We are educating children who live in a digital age so we believe our teaching and learning must reflect this reality. We also feel it is important to equip our students with the skills and knowledge to future-proof the children by developing the life-skills they need to use digital technologies in a safe and balanced manner. We will incorporate online safety into our SPHE programme. The use of digital technologies can be highly motivating, inclusive, enjoyable, engaging and meaningful for children and promote active engagement and collaborative learning. We will move towards enabling the pupils to create content and learn actively.

2. The focus of this Digital Learning Plan
We undertook a digital learning evaluation in our school during the period September 2018 to February 2019. We evaluated our progress using the following sources of evidence:
● The digital learning framework for primary schools
● A SCOT analysis on current practice
● Feedback from staff

Following on from investment in iPads, Laptops and IWB from our previous Digital Learning Plan we now feel our focus should be on developing the staff competencies in using applications for content creation with the children. Following support from a digital technology advisor from the PDST at a whole staff meeting, we discussed the use of Book Creator and Seesaw and decided our focus will be on using SeeSaw for content creation.
